Passau, Salzburg & Linz – 40th Wedding Anniversary

The ship docked in Passau and we boarded a bus for a 2 hour drive to Salzburg. The intention was a Mozart & Sound of Music tour but it really didn’t seem to be much of either. Seeing the sites consisted mainly of driving around in the bus with the guide telling us “if you look left you’ll see …” and by the time we all looked, we’d gone past the spot.

Salzburg is, however, worth the trip just to see the town. It is beautiful.

When the tour was finished, we had lunch with Donna & Konrad in a local restaurant that served a very good schnitzel with potatoes and cranberries. They paid for our lunch as an anniversary gift.

We then walked up to St Peter’s Cemetery and Donna, Konrad & Tracey continued up to the Catacombs. There were many steps, most of them uneven but the view from the top was stunning. There was also a baptismal font. You’d have to be keen to get your baby up there!

The drive back to Linz, where the ship had sailed to while we were away for the day, was reasonably uneventful but again, long. Thankfully, Danny survived, although he was really unwell.

We boarded in time for a short rest and then dinner.

Donna had organized an anniversary card for us and Danny had informed the staff of the date and so we had a card, balloon and towel swans on our bed and a bottle of sparkling wine in our room after dinner. We took the bubbles up to the deck and shared it with our main “crew” – Donna & Konrad, Kevin & Lorraine and John & Joanna.

Overall a lovely but exhausting day.
