Continued sailing along the Main river heading to Miltenberg.
Had a quick walk around town and then went to a wine tasting at the Stich Winery, a family-owned winery in the next town (Burgstadt).
Philip has been handed the winery management from his father. He is the 3rd generation of the family. He and his girlfriend, Sonja, now run the business. Sonja is studying to be a vintner. The business is very small, they do everything from growing grapes and harvesting, crushing, fermenting, bottling and labeling. They don’t produce enough to export their wines. This year, because of frost, they only produced 20% of their usual volume.
They do a very nice blended white, a Pinot Noir and a good Riesling. I bought a bottle of the white blend (Silvaner) to bring home.
We had a very short stay in port as we didn’t arrive until 1pm and sailed again at 3:45pm.
