Day 3 – Tues, 25 Sept 2018 – Christies Beach to KI

Today we head to Kangaroo Island (KI). First stop – breakfast (another theme – food!). Espys Bakery at Christies Beach was the choice. Clearly the Queenslanders were feeling the cold but Danny & I found it quite pleasant. Next, the two caravans had to be connected up and we then headed out to Cape Jervis to store the caravans while we’re on KI.

Once that was done, lunch was clearly required so we headed into the “town” of Cape Jervis (ok, there’s not much there really) and found the Cape Jervis Tavern & General Store where we met Jack. Jack tells us he’s the owner’s son and and that he had had approximately 10 customers that day until we walked in the door. As it was a little after the lunch “rush” the Tavern’s cook had just left so Jack ended up with the task of providing us with food. He tells us he’s not much of a cook but can manage fish & chips (apparently the 2nd best chips!!). He did a BRILLIANT job and not only fed us but kept us entertained when he wasn’t cooking. Couldn’t resist a photograph of the sign.

Once lunch was out of the way, we headed back to the Ferry terminal and over to KI. Thanks to a timely suggestion by Linda, we ended up on the 4:00pm ferry instead of the 6:00pm ferry. It was nice to arrive in daylight.

Our accommodation was Kangaroo Island Cabins. Basic, relatively cheap and a convenient location to everything we had planned for the week.

Dinner that night was at the Ozone Hotel in Kingscote. This is the most up-market of the offerings in Kingscote but certainly not the best in terms of food or service.
