Danny & I started our day by checking out of the hotel and heading to Rundle Mall to find somewhere for breakfast. We’ve been to Adelaide before (Tracey’s 50th) so we knew what to expect in Rundle Mall. You’ll notice a theme by the end of this trip – how often we gravitate to the known.
Adelaide is really a big country town and the Mall is similar to Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall, although, to be honest, there are definitely less people here.
On the way to breakfast, we purchased a new watch for Danny. If anyone is at all interested, he’s a watch man (who’d have thought??). He’s had his eye on a particular watch for some time but, alas, it’s not possible to purchase it via Amazon any more. So, we found a good deal on a Citizen “Eco-Drive” that he liked and I convinced him to buy it. His old watch (a very nice Timex “Expedition”) had lost its crown (winder), most unfortunately, and was unable to be adjusted except by a jeweler.
Having walked into the Myer Centre, we discovered a Jamaica Blue open and had breakfast there.
After breakfast we thought we’d wander down the Mall a little and came across a stand for Guide Dogs. As our good friend Naomi now works for Guide Dogs NSW we just had to get a photo.
The plan for the day was to meet up with the two other couples, who had travelled from Queensland’s Sunshine Coast to Christies Beach in their caravans, and do a walk around the immediate vicinity.
We met up with Wally & Linda and Ralph & Barb to have morning tea. Ken & Colleen would join us later.
So, back we went to Jamaica Blue (well, they had good coffee & it was convenient). Like I said, we keep going back to familiar places (LOL!!).
Once Ken & Colleen joined us we took a slow walk around Rundle Mall. Having married a photographer, I know how slow it can be getting from A to B when he’s carrying a camera. Now, multiply that by 7 and you’ll get some idea of what the rest of my trip was like!!!.
We ended up at The Star Kitchen & Bar at the Adelaide Festival Centre for lunch by the river.
Next stop – Christies Beach by train. Accommodation for the night was a cabin at Christies Beach Tourist Park. 45 minutes by train from Adelaide Central to Christie Downs and then a short drive to our destination.
That night we had dinner at the Christies Beach Hotel where Barb had the last Kangaroo fillet on the menu (much to Danny’s chagrin!).
