Day 11 – Wed, 3 Oct 2018 – Barossa Valley and a bit of luxury

Today’s breakfast was with Wally & Linda at Espy Bakery (Christies Beach) and then we headed back to say our farewells.

Ralph & Ken re-hitched their caravans and Danny found the air defector on Ken’s car too much of an invitation to pass up.

Ralph & Barb and Ken & Colleen headed off with their caravans up to the Barossa (where we met up with them later) and Danny & I and Wally & Linda got a Maxi-Taxi to the Airport via Glenelg. Wally & Linda were leaving us at this point and staying in Glenelg for a couple of days before heading back to Queensland.

Danny & I headed to the Airport to pick up a hire car.

After being told they didn’t have the Rav4 we had requested (yes, we know they can’t promise) we settled for a Subaru. However, as we were standing at the car about to load our bags, I saw a nice clean Rav4 being driven into the Europcar parking area. Danny trotted over and asked if we could swap and they were more than happy to switch the paperwork. So, we got our Rav4 for the 6 days. The reason we wanted it was simply to drive one of the newer models since ours is almost ready for a trade in.

Off to the Barossa Valley we went. After spending the last week in cabins, I decided that some luxury would be in order so had chosen the Novatel Barossa Valley Resort for the next two nights. And it was worth it! The staff were very friendly and helpful, the accommodation (as you can see by the pictures) was just what we needed and the food in the restaurant was scrumptious.

Oh, and by the way, if you’re ever heading to that particular hotel, do NOT let the GPS take you via the dirt roads. There is a sealed road into the property, it is just a tiny bit of a longer drive (seriously not long). Being in a hire car, we were not happy about driving along a dirt road. No harm done but we learned that the on-board GPS isn’t brilliant at avoiding unpaved roads!

So, we arrived at the Resort but since it was only just midday our room wasn’t ready so we trotted off into the nearest town (Tanunda) to find lunch. While we were there we spotted the Bedford truck. Danny’s dad had one of these many moons ago so he decided a photo was in order (even if it was taken on his phone).

After a quick lunch we met up with Ralph & Barb and Ken & Colleen who had arrived earlier and were ensconced at the Tanunda Holiday Park with their caravans. A short meander up the main street for a look at the town and then the rest of the crew had to stop for supplies at the shops so Danny & I headed back to our motel room.

Dinner that night was at the Resort restaurant. Great food and the staff were fabulous.
