Canal Tour 12/10/2024

Today consisted of a canal tour of Amsterdam, the Museum district and then a coach trip to Utrecht where the boat had docked and we had our Welcome dinner with the senior staff.

As became routine, we split into groups and walked a short distance to the tour boat.

The Canal tour took us past some interesting boats and the Maritime Museum (shaped like a boat) and, of course, the “Dancing Ladies” (a number of houses on the canals which are very lopsided). As the foundations along the canals in Amsterdam aren’t solid rock, the houses tend to lean if they aren’t propped up by a neighbour.

We got off the canal boats at the Museum District to have a look at the Rijksmuseum and the various other buildings. We had time for a quick coffee and then got onto a coach to Utrecht.

On the way we stopped at the “Rembrandt” windmill (a now private converted Windmill with a statue of Rembrandt outside painting the landscape).

Back on our ship, we experienced our first lock and so everyone went up to have a look. Of course, there a large number of locks on this cruise so it became something that wasn’t such an event.

That night we had our gala dinner & welcome from the Captain. It was a fairly sedate affair but, as became the norm, we can’t fault the quality, variety and amount of food served up.
