Danâs night-time photography excursion seemed to be pretty good and dinner was dumplings from the Sichuan Taste a block or so away.
Today started with breakfast at the hotel â the usual English breakfast offerings. The waiter took pity on us and gave us traditional Dutch âStroopwafelsâ so that we could say weâd had something at least somewhat âauthenticâ. The Stroopwafel is two very thin wafers that look like waffles and they are joined together with a thin layer of caramel. You then warm them up by placing them over your hot drink.
Next stop was the Van Gogh Museum. We caught a tram out (it would be about a 40 minute walk which wouldnât normally phase us but Dannyâs ankle had had enough walking the day before so I took pity on him). We arrived in plenty of time and just wandered around the few buildings until it was time to go in.
Itâs certainly worth doing and gives a wonderful insight into Vincent and his state of mind as well as his relationships with various people. His nephew, Vincent (named after him) was the driving force behind the creation of the museum. Most, if not all, the works they have in the museum are from the private collection of Vincent, his brother Theo and nephew Vincent.
The rest of the day was spent having lunch at Cobra CafĂ© (much better value than yesterdayâs lunch) and then back to the hotel. Weâre both a little sore and sorry with the amount of walking around weâve been doing and decided that, while we would have liked to have seen the Rijksmuseum as well, it would need a dedicated day which we just donât have.
Looking forward to getting on the boat tomorrow.
