Started the day sailing into Budapest at first light. Danny wasn’t up for another bus tour so Tracey embarked on the tour of Budapest without him.
We started with a short bus tour, then a walking tour around the Pest side of Budapest. We had a brilliant guide who gave us a really entertaining history lesson.
St Stephen’s Basilica and Hero Square were the highlights.
We had a brief time for exploring so a few of us went for a quick walk along the river to the Shoes on the Danube Bank, a memorial to the Jews massacred there during WWII – they were ordered to remove their shoes and then they were shot. Their bodies then fell into the river and the shoes were taken by the soldiers (stolen and sold).
While Tracey was on an organized tour, Danny decided to go for a walking tour of his own. He crossed the nearest bridge and ended up in the local Markets on the Buda side.
As always, the architecture was the focus and the markets are huge.
The afternoon was spent resting and beginning to pack.
This evening we had local entertainers on board serenading us over dinner and then the ship sailed up and down the river a way so that we could see Budapest by night. They light up the city and it’s truly spectacular.
