Today was a relaxed day just driving around the district and popping into wineries and places to eat.
We’d come to the Clare Valley to see the Knappstein Enterprise Winery. Unfortunately, they’ve now been bought out and no longer produce Danny’s favourite wine or the beer he enjoyed, so we just wandered inside to have a quick look but didn’t do a wine-tasting.
The first major stop of the day ended up being the “Mad Bastard” Winery. It’s in a great location but, unfortunately, we didn’t get the opportunity to meet the mad bastard himself which, apparently, makes for a very entertaining wine-tasting. The signs on the way up the driveway are fun.
From there we made a detour to Paulette Wines in the hopes of getting a table for lunch but they were fully booked and that’s not surprising when you see the view from the restaurant. It was worth the drive anyway.
Our favourite stop for the day had to be Good Catholic Girl Wines. The Cellar Door is something to behold. The wines are nice enough and our host for our wine-tasting was the winemaker and owner herself.
Afternoon tea was at the Clare Wine, Food & Tourism Centre where we found an interesting wine bottle holder for sale. We did resist buying but I reckon our mate Dave R might be tempted!
Dinner that night ended up being the goats cheese Danny had purchased at The Barossa Valley Cheese Factory with some dip and biscuits – we were sort of over food by then.
