Today was one of those extraordinary days. The scenery was amazing. This day was definitely my favourite day of the trip for scenery.
The beginning of our day saw the local bird-life visiting our cabin. We had been told that the other cabins were getting visits from beautiful little wrens etc. Our visitors? Magpies!! Clearly they know who my sister is (known in the family as the “mad Magpie lady of Albury” (LOL!!)).
We then headed off on our longest travel day. 1½ hours from the North East of the Island to the South West (Flinders Chase National Park). As usual there were a couple of stops along the way.
Our first official location was Admirals Arch. This area includes a seal sanctuary and the Cape du Couedic Lighthouse. I got to borrow Barbara’s “bridging” camera – this is an SLR but has nice auto capabilities and is a good fit for an amateur photographer.
As you can see – it was VERY cold and windy out there. Us “Cockroaches” were quite comfortable but the “Canetoads” among us were a little chilly!
We then moved on to the Remarkable Rocks – amazing scenery and more driving! I love the photos we took here as it shows the long and winding road leading to the Rocks.
Leaving was certainly hard but we had more to see.
Our trip home was via the southern route (low-road) back to Kingscote. This allowed us to visit Kelly Caves and do a tour. Again the site was beautiful and our guide was delightful.
Our guide reminded us that the first people to explore these caves would have had little more than candle-light to go by. Very brave indeed!
A brilliant day in all but a VERY long one.
The round trip (high road on the way out and low road on the way back) made it a very thorough drive around KI and the driving alone took us the better part of 3 hours.
