Our original itinerary had us visiting the “Island Pure Sheep Dairy” today but unfortunately we found out that it had recently (clearly VERY recently) closed! So, we took the time to have a look around the local area of Kingscote and do some shopping for basic food supplies (breakfast would be needed most mornings).
We soon discovered that KI is one of those spots where we were likely to get lost in the views. Being part of a photography tour meant that I had all the time I wanted to feast my eyes and I must say, it’s a spectacular spot on the planet.
Today we visited the shoreline around Kingscote, into the Bay Of Shoals and got some photos of the wildlife, Reeves Point Historic Site and the nearby boat ramp with some very relaxed locals!
Lunch was at Rogers Deli & Café and these guys were SO accommodating. On our last day on the Island, he actually opened up about 15 minutes early for us just because we were standing outside (clearly looking hungry and in need of a coffee!!). While we were in town we were collared by a passer-by who told us that they were training baristas up the road and we were welcome to drop in and order a hot beverage so they could practice. We couldn’t knock back a free drink, not to mention the opportunity to let someone practice what they’d been taught. As there were a few teacher/trainers in the group, that concept was very warmly embraced!
After that we headed down to Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery and the Emu Bay Lavender farm (not the right time of year but you’d never know it with the magic of photoshop (LOL!!)).
The Island Beehive was a great place for souvenirs and again, we returned later in the trip.
While we were at the Beehive we were told that we must visit “The Mulberry Tree”. This is apparently the first mulberry tree planted on KI . So, off we went. I’m sure in summer it’s beautiful but, seriously, during winter I wouldn’t be sending tourists there!
Back in Kingscote we couldn’t get over how very helpful the locals are.
Dinner that night was at Bella Café & Pizza Bar (great food and atmosphere). Once again, we ended up back there later in our trip.
